THE Archie's Creek Poetry Slam returns on Saturday night with anyone welcome to deliver a poem or become part of the audience.
This annual poetry slam brings together poets of all ages and levels of experience and from all walks of life.
The event takes place at that lively performance venue, Archie’s Couch, in Archie’s Creek. Poets’ registration opens at 7pm sharp – first in, best dressed – and at 7.30pm a maximum of 20 poets will stand up and speak, scream, sing, howl or whisper their words before a live audience.
Duelling poets perform their words with or without rhyme, in every tone of voice or even using rap, tap, and beatboxing. No props, costumes or musical instruments are allowed – only the voice and body of the poet. Poems must be the poet’s own work and under two minutes in length.
Everyone is welcome. Poetry slams are always exciting for poets, audience members and judges, who are chosen from the audience in a random chocolate scramble.
The MC for the night is Wonthaggi-based actor Alice Ansara. There is no entry fee and food and drinks can be purchased at the bar. The kitchen opens at 6pm.
For further information contact Alice on 0410 505 987 or email@example.com
Just over a week later, at 7pm on April 18, the Wonthaggi Library takes up the mantle.
Their poetry slam has a youth category (18 and under) and a general category, and is a great opportunity for poets, drama students and lovers of the English language to perform their poems. There will be prizes for both winners and door prizes.
Entry is free but bookings are recommended at wgrlc.eventbrite.com.au. Interested poets can register on the evening.
