4. What experience or attributes do you bring that will help you in the role of shire councillor?
I have experience in various fields including childcare, environmental conservation, office work, sports management, hospitality, and education. These roles demonstrate my versatility and skills. I am passionate about Phillip Island and its community, always aiming for the best to ensure its long-term success. I am eager to learn, expand my knowledge, and adjust to the ever changing demands of community leadership.
5. Have you stood for election before in local, state or federal government?
No
6. Do you belong to a political party?
No
7. Are you directing preferences?
I will be numbering according to how I see other candidates in line with my priorities. I won’t always align with candidates, but I will hold my ground in doing what is best for Phillip Island and the community.
8. Name up to five local issues that you consider most important and explain how you believe the council should tackle them.
Issue 1: The Recreation reserve, rezoning from Farmland to Recreation for perpetuity. Then adjust the council's timeline and change its focus to implement a phased approach for facilities.
Issue 2: Address and develop short and long term plans for foreshore erosion, due to overdevelopment, clearing of ecosystem and so on. This needs to be done now, with the correct resources and strategies to protect our coastline, it’s not too late!!
Issue 3: Accountability and transparency with Council and the Community is a must, ratepayers need to have input into where their money is going and deserve knowledge, not secrecy.
Issue 4: Waste Management review, red bins collected every week throughout Christmas / January and re-introduce 1 free hard rubbish collection a year again.
Issue 5: Community consultation and inclusion moving forward, I will advocate for more community meeting and assemblies to address community concerns.
9. Name the one thing you would most like to achieve if you are elected a Bass Coast Shire councillor.
To renew a feeling of belonging and involvement in our town, with the goal of bringing back a sense of community to Bass Coast, promoting open conversations and taking part in influencing the direction of our special island. To rejuvenate and protect Phillip Island and our community. We need to rescind the BURT (Bass Coast Unlocking Rural Tourism) Strategy.
