New festival gives Bass Coast's emerging musicians their chance to shine. YOUNG musicians will take centre stage when the inaugural Breakthrough Music Festival is held at the YES Youth Hub in Wonthaggi next month.
The event is organised by Green Room Concept Studios, a music school based in Dalyston, in partnership with the YES Youth Hub.
The free festival will showcase solo performers, bands, singer-songwriters and instrumentalists from across Bass Coast.
Green Room’s Callum Lee Gow says the festival is aimed at young performers of all experience levels, from first-time musicians to those already playing local gigs, with a focus on building confidence and connecting young artists rather than competition.

“The idea came from a student's parent - their child plays in a band, separate from any musical institution, and was speaking to one of our teachers about opportunities for young musos in the area.
“While many opportunities exist for students within a school environment (soirees, end of term events etc.), we wanted to provide all bands a chance to perform and connect on a professional stage. |
Breakthrough Music Festival, YES Youth Hub, Watt Street, Wonthaggi. Sunday, September 20 from noon to 4pm. Free entry for the audience, with a sausage sizzle run by youth volunteers from Workforce Wonthaggi, and a coffee cart. |
“We also wanted to give them the experience of applying for a festival as a professional band, complete with the opportunity to get paid for their time, efforts, and talents.”
The event is open to all musicians from 10-18 years old. Applications close on August 13.
