PictureCalling local film-makers and wannabe Steven Spielbergs, entries are open for the first Bass Coast Shorts film festival.
WITH time hanging heavy for many of us, it’s a great opportunity to work on your entry for the first Bass Coast Shorts film festival.

In conjunction with the Australian Short Films Festival, Bass Coast Shire Council will present the festival at the Wonthaggi Cinema next January.

The festival will include screenings, forums with guest speakers and social events to allow filmmakers and audiences to network and interact with each other.

Awards will be presented for the best film in three categories: Open, Local and Schools/Under18. There will also be awards for:
  • Best Animation
  • Best Music Video
  • Best First Nations Film
  • Best Screenplay
  • Best Coastal Environment Film
  • People and Place Award
  • An Emerging Talent Award
At the judge’s discretion, awards may also be presented for specific craft areas such as directing, cinematography, sound design, acting, editing and screen writing.
Bass Coast Mayor Brett Tessari said it was a great time for local filmmakers to get started on creating a short film for the festival.

“We’re interested in short films from all over the world. Films with a focus on coastal environments. Films that tell unusual stories in fresh and innovative ways. Films about people and issues, films that explore social justice, films that examine cultural heritage and films that celebrate the many wonders of nature and life on earth.

Entries must be submitted online through FilmFreeway website by midnight on November 30. The film festival will be held at the Wonthaggi Union Community Arts Centre from January 28 to 30 2022,
