It’s a new Term with a new Grapevine Program listing, out now! Not only that but we have some new groups and programs starting up too.
The first is Mindfulness with Maree on Wednesdays, 3.30 to 4.15pm. Here is an opportunity for people wanting to learn different mindfulness and breathing techniques that will enhance relaxation and inner peace. Research has confirmed the benefits of techniques that can be practised seated or lying down on a mat. Come along and give it a go.
Our next new group is the New Wave Gippsland Bass Coast advocacy group that is run by and for people with an intellectual disability and acquired brain injury living in the Bass Coast area. They work together to make sure they have the same rights, choices and opportunities as everyone else in the community. They meet every second Thursday of the month from 10 to 11.30am. To find out more call us for more contact information. Their dates are: 13th July, 10th Aug and 14th Sept.
Our last new group for this term is the ALOTS (Adults living on the Spectrum Social Group). They meet on the fourth Saturday of the month, 1.30 to 2.30pm. These are the dates for this term: 22nd July, 26th Aug, 23 Sept.
We all need to make positive choices in our lives but that sometimes doesn’t work out and we need help. There is a new group which provides an opportunity to share narcotic addiction within a supportive space. Call Peter for more information on 0456 000 844. They meet on Mondays 7 to 8pm
Our Free Supported Play Groups on Mondays and Fridays are made available through the Bass Coast Health for families with a Health Care Card or equivalent. Our Monday group is well attended and there are places available for the Friday group and Janine, the facilitator, is keen for some more little bods to boost the vibrancy of her group. It’s a great place for you and yours to take part in fun activities and to partake of the ‘Small Talk’ program with also includes information on children’s development and learning stages. Call Janine on 0457 834 960 or come and visit, have a chat and see what’s going on. She would welcome any queries you may have.
For the Monday’s group call Cath on 0427 729 695. Both groups operate 10 to 11.30am during school terms.
Whether one is a refugee settling into a new cultural environment or being part of a culturally diverse section of our community, it is very important to have those friendship and support connections which buoy our spirits and give us meaning and purpose. Well our Multicultural Women’s Group can provide avenues for this.
They meet on Thursdays 10am to 12 noon. It is for support for those who are socially and culturally isolated and culturally and linguistically diverse. Providing, among other things an improved awareness of cultural mores and expectations and provide opportunities for the development of practical life skills.
Just by giving valued but faulty items a new life you could be saving yourself money and feel virtuous at the same time as your decision has contributed to a saving of 300 kgs a year from going to the tip. Such goodie two shoes. Electrical fixers have come to the fore and there were four sewing experts at the last session. One hope they’ll be there again next café. Bookings are essential, your item has to be assessed and matched with a fixer to help you out. No walk ins on the day can be attended to as we have so many items to attend to and a relatively short time in which to do them. This is a joint venture with the Wonthaggi Men’s Shed and the WNC and they all muck in together quite well. Repairs are free but a donation is always welcome to help with running costs. It all happens on the 3rd Sunday of the month up at the Harvest Centre which is beyond the Big W carpark, past the Gooks Shed. The next date is August the 20th, 11am to 1pm.
Wonthaggi Neighbourhood Centre is coming up to 40 years of operation for our community. There must be many stories and to tell and treasured memorabilia to show from over all that time. We’d like to splash out and make it a great celebration. Were you involved with Mitchell House? What did it do for you? Well we are very keen for people to be involved with our celebration committee. Are you good at organising? Would you like to be involved with our celebration committee, bringing people and ideas together? If you are then give us a call, visit us or go online.
Membership is due as it’s the beginning of the new financial year. The session costs have remained the same as pre Covid prices with members continuing to get discounts for LearnShare activities.
We have lots going on at the WNC over the months so consider becoming a member of the WNC and get discounts to many of our activities and receive a monthly newsletter plus The Grapevine program which lists groups, their dates, days and times for the term. Both can be delivered online or by post, your choice. Call Mitchell House or visit us on Facebook: Wonthaggi Neighbourhood Centre at Mitchell House. Or go to our website:
