Cr Tessari, who has been Deputy Mayor for the past two years, was elected unopposed at a special council meeting on Wednesday night.
Cr Bruce Kent was elected as Deputy Mayor, with no other contenders for the position.
Cr Rothfield’s fellow councillors acknowledged her leadership.
