THE timber for the new Kernot bridge has arrived and is sitting in shipping containers beside the road, cut to size and numbered, ready to go in.
The old deck has gone, the creek banks have been cleared and rock placed at the abutments.
There is a massive drop down from the road at both ends.
The scaffolding that sat over the bridge has been lifted out in one piece and placed beside the road while the concreters and timber crews do their work. It will go back in once they are done. The river may also need to be dammed for part of the job.
The timber is cut to size and numbered.
Contactors expect the bridge to be finished by the end of December, weather permitting. If wet weather holds up the concreters on other jobs, their start here could be pushed back, so the date is a target rather than a promise.
The old wooden bridge was closed to all traffic in March, 2025 after structural damage was identified during an inpsection.
The $2.2 million replacement bridge is cofunded with $1.7 million from the federal Safer Local Roads and Infrastructure Program and the balance from Bass Coast Shire Council.
