A RICHMOND Football Club subsidiary will replace the YMCA as manager of Bass Coast’s leisure centres from July 1.

Aligned Leisure will manage the Bass Coast Aquatic & Leisure Centre in Wonthaggi, the Phillip Island Leisure Centre and the seasonal Cowes Outdoor Pool. The company is also expected to delivery programs in the community.

Bass Coast Shire Council appointed the company following a competitive tender process.

Council CEO Greg Box said Aligned Leisure was a highly capable, community-focused organisation with a strong track record in facility management and working in community.

“We’re excited to partner with Aligned Leisure, leaders in the aquatics and leisure industry, currently,” Mr Box said.

He said the council would work with Aligned Leisure  and YMCA Victoria to ensure the transition had minimal impact on members, customers, and the community.

Current staff are expected to be offered jobs under the new management.

Aligned Leisure was established by Richmond Football Club to provide an alternative source of revenue as it weaned itself off gambling income. It sold off its final pokie venue, the Wantirna Club, in 2022.

They currently operate 46 facilities across Australia including for the City of Wodonga, Mildura Rural City Council, Nillumbik Shire Council, Cardinia Shire Council and Manningham City Council.
