WONTHAGGI Theatrical Group presents its first offering for the 2015 season, the much-anticipated, all-new version of Bend it Like Broadway.

This is the third season using the concept, which originated on Broadway, where professional performers give up their time and sing songs from the opposite gender to raise funds.

Directors Will Hanley and I are thrilled with the amazing local talent, combined with fine performers from Melbourne to add depth and different perspectives to the arrangements and skits.

Local vocal stand-out Elly Poletti has superbly arranged several of the large ensemble pieces, which will move and delight audiences, combined with the musical direction of local legend Kirk Skinner.

Audiences will be treated not only to beautiful voices but also to Kirk’s cutting comments from behind the piano.

Featured local performers are Will Hanley (Cabaret, Anything Goes, Singin’ in the Rain, Jesus Christ Superstar), Sarah Hanley (West Side Story, Anything Goes, Singin’ in the Rain), Tom Green (Jesus Christ Superstar), Britt Lewis (Cabaret, Les Miserables), Elly Poletti (Cabaret), Bron Kalos (West Side Story as well as award-winning choreographer for Cabaret, Anything Goes and 13) and Brad Beach (too many Leongatha Lyric shows to mention).

From Rodgers and Hammerstein to Sondheim, Gershwin to Kander and Ebb, the Bend it Like Broadway team will showcase well-known classics and some modern show stoppers, each with their own interesting and enlightening twist.

Hear solos become ensemble pieces, role reversals, parodies plus sounds that will touch your soul or just give you a warm feeling all over.

The familiar local faces as well special guests from Melbourne who will dazzle in a night of laughter and entertainment.

Tickets to Bend it Like Broadway ($25 for adults, $20 concession) are available on-line throughWonthaggi Theatrical Group or at the door (cash only).

Karen Milkins-Hendry is co-director of Bend it Like Broadway.
