“I LOVE to dance, always have.” So said a lady I met recently in a dress shop.

“Rock ’n’ roll, line dancing, belly dancing, old time dancing. I think it is an expression of happiness, puts music in my heart,” she said as she helped me find a dress.

“And then there’s the good fun, how it helps co-ordination, keeps the brain working and the social aspect of meeting new people from diverse backgrounds.”

She wrapped the dress, I paid the money and she left me with more heartfelt words about what dancing has meant throughout her life.

Now with a new life in a new town, as she quick steps and waltzes, the fun, fitness and friendship continues.

You can join the fun at the Bass Coast Acoustic Music Club’s Winter Hoedown Community Bush Dance in the Cowes Cultural Centre in Cowes on Saturday August 24 from 7-11pm.

The night includes music and dance calling from the Big Possum Stringband, from West Virginia, who play fiddle tunes, early bluegrass and country.

Come along and join the fun. You don’t need dance experience or a partner. Bring a plate to share for supper. Tickets $20 for adults, $2 under 16 and family tickets (two adults, two children) for $40, available at Trybooking  All profits will go to  Phillip Island Landcare.
