Japanese Celtic band John John Festival has chosen Wonthaggi for the Australian launch of their new album.
Following a successful concert here in 2018, the Celtic band John John Festival return to launch their 2019 tour and new album in Wonthaggi this month.
Arguably Japan’s most popular celtic band, John John Festival have continued to delight and thrill audiences around the globe with their exuberant and joyful Celtic grooves. The band members are Mana Okubo (John) on fiddle and vocals, Hirofumi Nakamura (Annie) on guitar and vocals, and Toshi Bodhran on bodhran and tambourine.

It’s been almost been two and a half years since they released their last album, Forget me not, and they will be releasing their new album Live at Kyudo-kaikan in Wonthaggi at the beginning of their Australian tour.
John John Festival fiddle player Mana says the new album was recorded at a special gig in Tokyo’s Kyudo-kaikan, a Buddhist church built by Jokan Chikazumi.
“We chose this place mostly for the beautiful natural sound. We hope you can enjoy our new album as if you’re in the venue with us.”
John John Festival will kick off their Australian tour at the Wonthaggi Baptist Church at 2pm on Saturday, March 30, before going on to play festivals and gigs on the south east coast, including the National Folk Festival in Canberra.
Tickets are $20 or $15 concession, including afternoon tea.
