SPREADING the joy of song is very much the mantra of Sisters and Misters, a Melbourne based vocal group, who are looking forward to singing their way round Phillip Island in late April as their contribution to Phillip Island’s 150 year celebrations.

The group regularly performs at music festivals, community events and functions, as well as singing at aged care centres and charitable events such as the Olivia Newton-John Wellness Walk and Research Run and the Cancer Council Relay for Life.

As volunteers, they come together through a shared love of song. While many members have little previous singing experience, they offer a wide repertoire of songs from the 1960’s to current hits and share an enthusiasm that draws the audience into their performance.

The Group travelled to Tasmania in 2016 and 2017 and performed in Hobart’s Festival of Voices. They were semi-finalists in Australia’s Got Talent in 2011.

Sisters and Misters is led by founder and director Irene Bennetts, a professional singer and teacher. The idea of the Phillip Island tour came while she was enjoying Christmas at her residence in Wimbledon Heights. She was encouraged by members who have a holiday home in Ventnor and with the help of local friends and organisations the idea has blossomed into a series of performances from April 27-29.

Sisters and Misters will sing at private functions on Friday April 27 at Gossard Court Aged Care and at the Phillip Island Senior Citizens Club’s Luncheon.

On Saturday morning they will perform at the Chapel Street Market at 9am, then in the forecourt of the Cowes (Woolworths) Shopping Centre at 11.15am. Their main concert is at the National Vietnam Veterans Museum at 2.30pm and will feature songs from the Vietnam War era.  Entry is free from 1pm.

On Sunday morning they will perform pre-service songs at Cowes Uniting Church at 10am, then travel to San Remo to sing on the jetty following the feeding of the pelicans. Their tour concludes at Phillip Island RSL with a family performance starting at 2.30pm.

You’ll recognise members of the group in their signature black outfits, which feature a splash of red.
