PictureDennis Leversha is one of the artists who will show how he works.
By Kate Taylor

WINTER is upon us, and Artspace Gallery is embracing it with a series of artists’ talks and demonstrations.
From 2-4pm every Sunday in June, July and August, a local artist will demonstrate their work and answer questions.

The aim is to inform and entertain a wide variety of individuals and art groups, and to keep up the interest during the cold winter months.

First up on June 4 is Marg Lacey, an award-winning realist artist who works in oils, pastels and watercolours, and succeeds in capturing the moment in line, light, beauty and atmosphere. Enjoy afternoon tea while watching her create a painting.

To come:
  • June 11: Dennis Leversha is famous for the murals he has produced throughout Gippsland, as well as being a fine artist. Local beaches, old vehicles and wrecks of historical buildings are just a few of his subjects.
  • June 18: Former art teacher Judy Soerink describes herself as a romantic realist. She enjoys painting people at leisure, and will enjoy showing you how she does that in her favourite medium of pastels.
  • June 25: Watercolourist Maureen Loughran’s inspiration is drawn from nature. Watch how she captures the moods of the land and sea around her.

The demonstrations will be accompanied by a delicious home-made afternoon tea ... all free!

What a wonderful way to spend a winter afternoon. On Sunday I had the pleasure of watching the talented and effervescent Marg Lacey as she talked through her creative process. With an interested crowd of over thirty people, we were treated to a scrumptious afternoon tea which provided an opportunity to chat about all things art with like minded people. Now I am looking forward to the next demo afternoon at Wonthaggi Art Space.

So many things to choose from on the long weekend but count me in for the 25th! This is a great idea!
