WHILE our attention has been diverted by COVID19 it should not be forgotten that there are other health issues that demand attention.
While not officially a mental health disorder, experts are noticing higher levels in adults and children of eco-anxiety, ie. distress about environmental changes, particularly climate change.
Gippsland artist Sofie Dieu has developed some online workshops to help creatives, educators and art enthusiasts who are suffering from eco-anxiety.

Gippsland artist Sofie Dieu has developed some online workshops to help creatives, educators and art enthusiasts who are suffering from eco-anxiety.
The first workshop will be led by Sofie and Juliana Luna, a designer and yoga teacher who works with Sofie at Monash University, on June 13 from 10-11.30am, via Zoom.
The workshop will start with an introduction to eco-anxiety, climate change anxiety and seasonal affective disorder (SAD). It will be followed by a group conversation and a mapping activity.
Sofie will run a meditative drawing activity on colour and Juliana will guide the participants through a short meditation. Participants will be given time to reflect in their journal and think of a way to use the shared ideas and previous two activities as part of their creative journey.
To conclude, a well-being emergency contact list will be distributed explaining what to do with it and when to use it.
The second workshop will be led by Sofie and Dr Barbara Doran from the University of Technology Sydney and, on the July 4 from 10-11.30am, via Zoom.
