BASS Coast’s writers, photographers and artists have done their bit; now it’s time for the music makers.

In the first stage of the Coastal Connections project, Bass Coast residents were invited to write 150 words or less about a place in the natural world that was special to them.

Thirty-six creative contributions were submitted and the project’s working group has selected 14 of the submissions to incorporate into six short films. The films will include footage of the special places as well as interviews with community members about their special places.

Now the working group is commissioning original musical compositions to accompany the six short films that will be made around these special places in our natural world.

Creative contributions from the first stage of the Coastal Connections project are being serialised in the Bass Coast Post. They can also be seen at Community Music Victoria .

Composers selected for the project will be commissioned to compose for one of the six films. Music may be instrumental or may contain lyrics that relate to the content of the submissions. Collaborations are welcome, provided musicians from Bass Coast are actively involved.

Film-makers and composers will collaborate throughout the creative process. A fee of $500 will be awarded to each composer. Additional funding is available for musicians and sound engineers involved in recording the compositions.

If you would like to be considered to compose music for one of the six films, send a CV and mp3 sample of three previous musical compositions to the project coordinator, Dr Laura Brearley, [email protected] by COB Friday, October 9.
