A RAINBOW Garden has appeared on the foreshore at Coronet Bay. A marvellous display using hundreds of plastic bottles donated after a call went out to the community, it’s a sight to behold against a back drop of coastal beauty, or in the evening when it is lit under a starry sky.
It was all done with the help of a happy band of artisans and volunteers, a couple of talented tradesmen who gave freely of their time and support from Bass Coast Council.

The flowers in this display have been created from used plastic bottles that would otherwise have gone to re-cycling (one hopes) or have been discarded in some other way. They are cut into required shapes to make each type of flower, glued together and then painted for protection and colour. After the display the flowers will be stored for another occasion that may require them. Many of our volunteers were surprised at what they could achieve during these restrictions with a little guidance from our curator, Joann Gann. The flowers were made at home, which gave them a cheerful hobby to occupy the winter days and let their imagination fly. The group made more than 2000 flowers of all types. Visit the Luminous Galleries Facebook Page for tutorials and information on flower making. Two local handymen, Fred Bloets and Paul Sandford, made the amazing windmill which will later be gifted to the Coronet Bay Community Garden. Steve Ambry carved the clogs. Some of the material was donated by Van Steensels. The display also features two smaller windmills ingeniously made from water bottles. They look stunning when lit at night. Flowers arrive from many directions and the display is put together on a beautiful Coronet Bay morning. The final result is breathtaking and so cheerful after winter. Special thanks to our curator Joann Gann who has worked so hard over three years and who has brought joy to many. The Rainbow Garden is bringing joy to the Coronet Bay community and to many other Bass Coast visitors. If you are visiting, look for the banners.
