BASS Coast gardeners will show and tell all in the inaugural Edible Gardens Open Weekend.

Fifteen of Bass Coast’s finest edible gardens will open to visitors between 10am and 4pm on February 19 and 20.

They include five community gardens, six backyard gardens and four small acreage properties; all producing a range of foods and using a variety of approaches.

The event was the brainchild of Maddy Harford after an inspiring visit to the Baw Baw Shire’s Creative Harvest weekend in 2020. Maddy knew something similar would be a great addition to the calendar of events in Bass Coast.
After talking with the Creative Harvest brains trust, a group of like-minded and enthusiastic people secured a community grant from the Bass Coast Shire Council and the inaugural Bass Coast Edible Gardens Open Weekend was born.

The event is co-ordinated and curated by Bass Coast Adult Learning and hosted by local gardeners.

Of different sizes and using different approaches, the gardens are all grown by keen gardeners who are happy to impart their passion and expertise in growing food.
Tickets
Online bookings for the gardens and dinner are now open at www.trybooking.com/BTVWB
Additional tickets for the Open Garden Weekend can also be purchased on the day at each garden. Cash only.
Whether you live in the country or a city, in a suburban house with a small yard, in an apartment or on a larger block, this eclectic selection of gardens has something for everyone.

It’s for everyone from beginners to experienced gardeners seeking insight into fields as diverse as water management, wicking beds, permaculture, composting and insect pollinators.

Tickets are $5 per garden or $20 for all gardens over the two days. The event also includes a celebratory three-course dinner featuring local produce at the Corinella Public Hall on Saturday night.  The cost is $55.

Organisers are also seeking volunteers for three-hour shifts to help with check-ins at the gardens. Contact Leslie on 0491 217 584 or leslie.adams@bcal.vic.edu.au if you can help.
