SAN Remo residents and visitors are being invited to bring out their old mementoes, memories and photos in a project to record the characters and culture of San Remo’s past.
SAN Remo residents and visitors are being invited to bring out their old mementoes, memories and photos in a project to record the characters and culture of San Remo’s past.
The project came about when several community members recognised that San Remo doesn’t have a single collection point for local history, yet there are so many stories that need to be captured about the days long gone.
There is a collective knowledge about the early settlers, the fishing and farming days, and locals can identify special places. I’ve heard many stories about seeing bands like Skyhooks play locally and people love to share their episodes of misadventure. All this is what makes the character and characters of San Remo.
People have amazing old photos, and relics that need to be documented and shared. San Remo doesn’t have a museum so the focus is on digital documentation.
The project begins next Saturday with a day where people can drop by, have a cuppa, register their stuff and stories and share with others. The next step will be to sort through the contributions, collect more information and make 10 key stories to share digitally.
After this first project we hope that there will be community interest in continuing to document and share San Remo’s history.

San Remo Stuff and Stories is on Saturday, April 29, at the San Remo Recreation Hall
