A night of music with Lionel Loves Vinyl will raise money to help resettle refugee families in Bass Coast.

By Peter Ghys

THE Bass Coast Refugee Sponsorship Group has been around for a number of years.  We set ourselves up to help refugee families settle into Australia.  This concept is associated with the Community Refugee Integration and Settlement Pilot, which has a relationship with the Department of Immigration.

So far our small group of volunteers, working out of Mitchell House in Wonthaggi, has helped two Syrian families, the Alis and the Al Habras, to settle in to Wonthaggi.
Our group helped both families by picking them up from the airport, finding them accommodation, helping them to arrange education for their children, and health related items for all of them, helping them to set up their Centrelink and banking accounts, helped them get drivers' licences and assisted in finding employment.  And we became their friends!

(We’re only a small group. If you would like to help, please email [email protected].)

The Ali family, left, have been in Bass Coast for two years and the Al Habra family (above) arrived last year.

Resettling refugee families takes time, and also money, so every now and then we have a fundraiser.  We had a multicultural music and food night in 2022 at The Hub in Inverloch and it was a blast!

This year’s fundraiser is a night of music and dancing at the Warrawee Club in Inverloch on Saturday, May 25.  The music is by Lionel Loves Vinyl, a dynamic group of Gippsland guys who play a great mix of rock hits from the `70s, `80s, `90s and `00s.

This being a fundraiser we will have a raffle and at least one auction.

Tickets for the BCRSG fundraiser are $40, which includes a light supper provided by some of our multicultural community.  Drinks will be available at bar prices. Doors open at 7pm, and we aim to finish the evening by 10.30pm.

Why not get a bunch of friends together and come along for a great time, whilst raising money for a worthwhile cause. In 2022 the function was sold out – so get in early to book your tickets from Trybooking.
